Resonance
Peace is such a fleeting thing, but the galaxy continues to take it for granted. It seemed like only yesterday that the final bodies were being buried from the last war, and the loss was just beginning to have meaning. For the Jedi Order the surety of having defeated the dark side seemed unconquerable, but like ever a new day dawned.
Bursting from their hibernation in Wild Space the Sith returned to the galactic stage, and brought with them pain and destruction in the form of an unstoppable force. Their ranks bristled with men and women, all eager to serve their Dark Side masters and revenge those that had previously fallen. The Galactic Republic never saw it coming, and the shock of these monsters reemerging sent ripples throughout the galaxy felt by both Jedi and non-Force user alike. Reborn, the Sith had come to take their rightful place as rulers of the galaxy.
Swiftly they took planet after planet, subjecting the inhabitants to their dominion and using them to bolster their ranks. The shadow of Imperial ships was soon seen throughout the Outer Rim, but nothing could be done to stop them. Republic forces rallied to the calls, desperate to fight back against this evil power but by the time the field was truly taken by the government the Sith Empire had claimed far too many worlds to be simply brushed aside. Though the jaws of defeat had snapped shut inches from the Galactic Republic's throat, the beast's eyes continued to project the despair and misery that was to come.
Criminality flourished through the chaos, and none more so than the Hutt Regime. Extortionate prices for the precious substances that drove their war machines was risky business, but business nonetheless. The longer it went on, the greater profit the criminals gained and the more influence and power they could grab while the two factions were distracted. Sneaky tactics, sabotage even, every step was taken to continue the trading at higher than usual prices, and keep the secrets of treachery hidden.
There was no preparation to face this threat and even as the Jedi were called to aid the bruised government that they had faithfully served for so long, hope seemed merely a flicker in the oncoming darkness. Led by the fearsome Sith Order, the Empire seemed impossible to defeat. Suddenly victory turned into merely surviving, holding ground or retreating with minimal losses. Winning didn't seem attainable, and fear of annihilation became an ever present shiver on the back of the neck. The ruthlessness of the Sith Empire has made it clear though; either fight or die.
The Galactic stage has been set. What part in it will you play?
