What an odd looking creature is Mister Fletcher. His height is taller than most normal men, but of course he is no normal man at all. His skin is pale as if he is constantly covered in white face powder. His cheeks, which are eternally flushed a deep pink, pop out from his features like ripened cherries. His mouth is thin and well defined, with lips coloured a deep red and usually parted in a smile that would reveal yellow teeth. His eyelashes are surprising long for a male, reaching all the way up to his bushy and unkempt eyebrows. His eyes are the blackest of black, with no pupils to be seen. Mister Fletcher's whole face is like a mask made by someone with only a vague knowledge of what a human face ought to look like.
He has a gaunt stature, which is enhanced by his inhuman thinness. His movements are fluid and he is insanely flexible, able to contort his body in a whole host of disconcerting ways.
Clothing-wise Mister Fletcher wears what is to be expected of a Master of Ceremonies, a dark tuxedo accompanied with a large bow-tie. His hair, which is jet black, is gelled sleekly to either side to leave a straight parting right in the middle of his forehead.
Mister Fletcher's voice is equally as strange as his appearance. It is shrill and holds hints of various unidentifiable European accents. He often changes accents from German to English to French and many others, although for some reason he never comes up with an American accent. He actual speech is too a mixture of different European languages, though primarily he chooses to speak in English.
Nobody has ever seen him blink.
personality
Mister Fletcher is a great lover of theatricalities. He moves as if he is close to dancing, and speaks as if he will burst into song in but a matter of seconds. Almost everything he does is with a flourish of histrionics, especially when he's upon the grand stage of the Midnight Cabaret. It is upon that stage where he feels at his best, singing and dancing with the various other dark performers of the cabaret. Mister Fletcher also enjoys the occasional bout of slapstick comedy, something he is particularly talented at. He rarely does anything by half-measures. His entire being is an explosion of personality.
But like most demons he is filled with an innate malevolence. After all both himself and his beloved Midnight Cabaret are only upon Earth to lure souls towards Hell. Not that Mister Fletcher doesn't like his job, in fact he absolutely adores it. Luring souls is what he was made to do, his one true purpose in life, and he does it damn well.
Mister Fletcher has an eerie intensity about him that many find unnerving, almost frightening. Yet for some reason he is curiously compelling, in both his speech and his mannerisms. With a wide smile oozing politeness and charm, he will twirl his way to potential souls and place a long arm around their shoulders. Despite his thin frame he is surprisingly strong and very few creatures (especially not humans) would ever be able to escape from his grasp unless he let them.
He is friendly and welcoming but if one scrapes ever so slightly on the surface one can easily see the forced nature of his camaraderie. Of course Mister Fletcher's amiability is ultimately just a front for his occupation. Sooner or later the true cruelty that resides in him will become visible, as well as the utter hatred he holds for the human race.
He relishes in the macabre and the grotesque, often the performances he does contain signs of both. He also has a fascination with insects, keeping many on his person such as in pockets and under hats. His arthropod collection often comes as a shock to the humans that encounter him.
family & history
Mister Fletcher has no family. He was created in Hell, cobbled together from a patchwork of lesser demons many millennia ago. In his earlier centuries he worked as a mere minion in one of the many boiler rooms of Hell. Over time however he progressed up the ranks, going from minion to supervisor right up until the point he was given the prestigious honour of being allowed on Earth.
It was upon Earth where Mister Fletcher was given a human form (prior to that his appearance was more insect-like in nature). He was placed in Fifth Century Europe during the decline of the Western Roman Empire. In fact it was Mister Fletcher (although his name had obviously been different back then) and a collection of other demons who had assisted in the murder of Romulus Augustus. This particularly impressive feat put Mister Fletcher on the demon A list for quite some time.
Over the years he succeeded in assisting a great number of assasinations, the most notable of which being Thomas Becket the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Mister Fletcher's most recent achievement occurred in England, 1912, where he managed to persuade the captain of the newly built RMS Titanic that they would not need to have that many life boats. On the fifteenth of April, 1912, Mister Fletcher (which he had now chosen become his new name) watched the vast ship sink whilst sitting, quite comfortable, in one of the few available life boats. From that moment he decided that he had had enough of Europe and decided to set his eyes upon America.
