The Archangel Michael Uzziah, Right Hand of God
“For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind.” -Hosea 8:7
Character Basics
NICKNAMES: The Right Hand of God, The Angel of Miracles
AGE: Ageless
BIRTHDAY: Unknown
GROUP: Being of Light
SPECIES: Archangel
OCCUPATION: The Right Hand of God
GENDER: None (typically masculine)
PLAY-BY: This is my first game requiring such a thing, and I wouldn’t know who to pick or where to look.Appearance
ANGELIC: Human conceptions of angels are based in human thought, not upon the images of the angels themselves. Those viewing Michael in his true divine form would call him an abomination, yet his form is that of a true angel. His body is a limbless, genital-less alabaster torso with sculpted muscles, surmounted by eight wings of silver feathers, each great appendage covered in lidded eyes of emerald green. A featureless alabaster head floats gently above the torso, its carved face devoid of mouth or nostrils, brilliant green eyes staring divinely out from the flawless perfection of the visage. Michael has no hair: instead, thin silver tracery coils in beautiful patterns upon his marble skin. Where he would have arms there is nothing but empty air, yet six alabaster hands float around him, each palm set with another emerald eye.
The one thing humanity is correct in is the halo. Three intertwining circles of pure light—one for the Father, one for the Son, and one for the Holy Ghost—hover behind him. These are not the fine circlets of human myth, but large, radiant discs of divine light, impossible to overlook. Each circle is, upon closer inspection, a collection of runes of light spelling out the words of scripture and the will of God. These runes occasionally peel off, circling Michael like a miniature cyclone of Holy Writ.
HUMAN: In human form, Michael’s appearance varies based on the requirements of his situation. His preferred appearances, however, are those of an attractive, graying man in his late 40’s and a young, blonde, around-the-town artist who usually appears to be in his early twenties.Personality
Michael is an old angel. He has never really adapted to the New Testament God, and thus retains the “fire and brimstone” approach of the old God. Redemption is, to Michael, something done by the sword when the voice does not suffice, and he judges sinners harshly. In short, he is woefully outdated in this modern age of reason and enlightenment.
Michael’s actual personality is fairly nonexistent. Angels have little use for such things, as they serve mostly as heralds and hands of God. Individuality is problematic for such a divine being. True, most minor angels develop one through interaction with mortals, but Michael has kept his earthly affairs to a minimum, and thus has had no need for a “personality.”
In short, immensely powerful though the Angel of Miracles is, he may be at his weakest point in millennia. Angel’s minds are torn between a divine half and a separate consciousness, and Michael’s individual thoughts have not fully formed. How they eventually shape themselves could easily dictate relations between the Divine, Infernal, and Mortal realms for centuries to come.History
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word before God. This is the first memory Michael possesses: a memory from a time so distant that God had not yet divulged the parts of His Majesty that were to become the angels of the heavens. Michael recalls the earth as it came into being, conjured from Void and Nothingness into vibrant Reality. He has seen the birth of the Heavens, the conception of the Angelic Host, and the creation and fall of Man.
There is little Michael hasn’t seen. From his seat at God’s side he is almost omniscient, seeing the world through a view as close to the Divine as is possible for any being of lesser stature than God Himself. For thousands of years Michael’s only experience with temptation was during the Angelic Rebellion, when, during their final confrontation, Lucifer attempted to sway his resolve and draw Michael into his net of lies. Seconds later, Michael Uzziah cast Lucifer through the gates of Heaven and down into the earth itself.
If he but knew, the Devil would be please. A brief moment of hesitation had crossed Michael’s consciousness—a single fleeting moment where he contemplated freedom from his eternal hosannas and his endless task. A tiny crack in his impenetrable armor of faith.
It is for this reason that Michael has spent most of his time in heaven. At God’s right hand temptation does not exist: nothing impure can survive that close to the pinnacle of divinity. Yet now Michael is woefully outdated in terms of the mortal realms, and it is beginning to cause problems in heaven. God’s solution is to send him to Earth more often, and to get him actively involved with humanity. Michael dreads it. The only fear he knows is that the part of him that does not stem directly from God will be altered by his earthly experiences, pulling him further from the divine. A small part of him wishes this would happen, and he cannot account for it. Yet no angel can easily oppose that Almighty, and so Michael is spending more and more time on earth. It is beginning to show. The Roleplayer
NAME: The Djinn
GENDER: Male
AGE: 20
ROLEPLAY EXPERIENCE: 6+ years, although I no longer remember exactly.
OTHER CHARACTERS: None.
HOW YOU FOUND US: Referred by a friend.
ROLEPLAY SAMPLE: Unfortunately, I come from a different section of the internet RPing community, having started with pen & paper games and moved rapidly to fantasy freeform, and then on to other things. As such, I don't have much in the way of long-form samples, but here are some links to my work.
The Beauty and Blight of the Black Rose -- Posting as Djinn_in_Tonic, running Travis D'Amerila, a reporter for the Sharn Inquirer.
Coreline: Silver Eyes, Sharp Teeth -- Posting as Gideon_Gideonson, running Jake Riley, a futuristic Texan Meca-pilot.
The Sands of Time (Tournament Thread) -- Posting as Gideon_Gideonson, running Jacquelyn Eva Pierce-Roswell, a super-powered human with control of physics. Jacquelyn toes the line of god-modding, but that's part and parcel of that particular forum, and the being I'm fighting has control of time itself. I had to fight fire with fire, and I assure you that I do not do such things normally.
If this is not sufficient (or is to different for you to judge properly, given the competitive and/or rules based nature of those threads), I do have a long-form story background of a character that might be acceptable, but, due to it's 9 page length, I'm hesitant to post it.
Other Notes: The appearance is unusual because I don't always like the idea of angels being entities easily comparable to humans. I hope this is alright. The personality is similar: I'm interested in portraying a developing personality as something that is all but divine is exposed to the mortal world, so I kept it simple and vague for the moment, allowing me more freedom to have other players take part in crafting what Michael finally becomes.
Please let me know if anything needs to change.
